Toxicity of magnets

With regard to chemical composition, magnets comply with the European directive (2002/95/EC). RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances). Ferrite magnets are not toxic. In an extreme environment (acids) a small amount of barium may be released. In many cases barium is replaced by strontium.

The effect of magnetism on human beings

So far no detrimental effect of the magnetic field on human beings has been confirmed, as opposed to, for example, x-ray radiation. In medicine, the magnetic field is used in diagnostics (NMR - nuclear magnetic resonance).

Handling magnets

Manipulate carefully when two magnets or a magnet and a steel object are approaching. Given the strong forceful effect the magnet might be damaged or an injury might occur! Do not leave magnets lying about.
